ARCHEOLOGICAL TOUR IN BULGARIA 

Plovdiv - Zagora - Kazanlak - Hiserya - Sofia 


1st Day ;

• Arrival at Sofia airport.
• Transfer to Plovdiv, the second largest city in the country, situated        
150 kms from Sofia.
• Arrival. Accommodation at the hotel.
• Dinner and overnight stay in Plovdiv.
                                                                                                                                                                                                  





2nd Day ; 
        
• Breakfast.
• Sightseeing tour of Plovdiv, one of Europe’s mosta ancient cities, older than Athens, Rome and 
Costantinople. A tour of the old town which consists of one of the most spectacular ensembles of town houses from the period of the Bulgarian National revival. Visit to the Saints Constantine and Helena Church, Roma Theatre, Regional Ethnografic Museum.
• Departure to the Village of Alexandrovo. It dates from 4th century B.C. and is one of the brightest monuments of the Thracian culture. It revelas very well-preserved wall paintings, which depict 23 human figures and provide new data about the Thracian religious rituals, cults, imagination, lifestyle and clothing and reveals us once again the high artistic skills of Thracian painters.
• Continuing our road to Stara Zagora. 
• Arrival. Accommodation at the hotel.
• Dinner and overnight stay in Stara Zagora.

3rd Day ;
                        
• Breakfast.
• Sightseeing tour of Stara Zagora- The Antique Forum Complex dating back to Roman times, the Late Antique Mosaics of Stara Zagora Memorial Compleax 1877. A visit of the Neolithic Dwellings Museum. This is a museum in situ, where visitors can see 2 dwellings from the new stone era together with their full set up- ovens for baking bread, manual flour mills, ceramic vessels and others. According to the description of the historical museumin Stara Zagora, the houses are from the 6th century B.C. and are the best preserved ones, with the richest set up in Europe. 
• Departure to Kazanlak. 
• Arrival. A visit to the Rose Museum, which has unique exhibits relevant to the production of rose oli from the year 1660 until today; a visit to the Thracian Tomb of Kazanlak. The tomb is part of a great Thracian necropolis that dates back to the 4th century BC. It has been part of the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage since 1979.
• Accommodation at the hotel.
• Dinner and overnight stay in Kazanlak.



4th Day ;
                            
• Breakfast.
• A visit to a cow farm and a short course where tourists will learn how to prepare yoghurt at home. Bulgarian yoghurt is a unique world known product. From ancient times it is considered a food that supports health and longevity. Tourists will take part to the preparation of the yoghurt and banitsa whose recipe they will be able to take with them at the end of the visit
• Departure to the Valley of the Thracian Kings. Visit of  Golyama Kosmatka Tumulus, in which the famous Bulgarian archeologist Georgi Kitov found in 2004 the greatest and richest Thracian tomb, with beautiful and well preserved architecture. Visit of the Otrusha Tumulus, which is burial complex with total area of 100 square meters and whose burial chamber is in fact a 60 ton granite monolith. Visit to the Shipka Memorial Church- a Russian church built in honour of the perished Russian soldiers and Bulgarian volunteers in the Russo- Turkish war (1877/1878)
• Continuing our road to Hisarya.
Arrival. Accommodation at the hotel.
• Dinner and overnight stay  in Hisarya.  

5th Day ;
                                  
• Breakfast.
• A visit to the Roma fortress walls dating back from the 3rd century and with total length of 2,4 kms. Departure to Starosel. Visit of the biggest Thracian royal complex with mausoleum dating from 5th- 4th century B.C., built-up in a tumulus in the middle of a field.
• Visit of the winery of Starosel and wine tasting. Opportunity to taste the wine from a region called “the Valley of Thracian Kings”.
• Continuing our road to Sofia.
• Accommodation at the hotel.
• Dinner and overnight stay in Sofia.

6th Day ;
                             
• Breakfast.
• Sightseeing tour of Sofia: St. Nedelya Catheral, St. George Rotunda, Banya Bashi Mosque, Sofia Synagogue- the largest synagogue on the Balkan Peninsula, the Presidency and the seat of the Government. Visit of the National Archeological Museum, the oldest museum in Bulgaria, founded in 1892. The exhibition of the museum contains more than 55000 artifacts, representing the history of the Bulgarian lands. The sightseeing tour of Sofia continues: Ivan Vazov National Theater, the former Royal Palace, Russian Church of St. Nicolas, St Sophia Church, National Assembly Square with the monument of the Russian tsar Alexander II named “Tsar Liberator”, Sofia Univeristy, St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
• Visit of the Museum of the Bulgarian icons in the cathedral crypt.
• Time at leisure.
• Dinner and overnight stay in Sofia.

7th Day ;
                          
• Breakfast.
• A visit to the National Museum of History and the Boyana Church. The Boyana Church is included in the UNESCO List of World Culturale Heritage and has preserved frescoes of an unknown artist, which date back to the year 1259.
• Time at leisure.
• Dinner at a typical restaurant with folklore programme.
• Overnight stay in Sofia.
                                               

8th Day ;

• Breakfast.
• Transfer to the airport. 
• Departure.
